Victoria Beckham Was ‘Embarrassed’ to Tell Marc Jacobs About Her Line

These days, Victoria Beckham has dressed everyone from Oprah to Heidi Klum in her designs. But before she had fully emerged from the shadow of her Spice Girl past, she struggled to tell one of her high fashion pals about her plans to enter his world. In the latest issue of Elle, the award-winning designer shares her struggle to tell Marc Jacobs about her fashion line. She says,

We went out to dinner one night ... He said, 'I saw that you put out a collection.' I felt embarrassed to tell Marc Jacobs that I — me, ex-Spice Girl, married to a footballer — was creating a fashion line.
Fortunately for her A-list clientele, she quickly got over her inhibitions and went on to receive the 2011 Designer Brand of the Year Award from, drumroll please, Mr. Jacobs himself. Of battling her own self-doubt, she explains, "People say to me, 'Oh you've proved yourself to everybody...' But that was never why I did this. I had a lot to prove to myself. I'm proud of myself. I'm proud of my team."

We'd be proud of ourselves too if our collection had earned $23 million in the first quarter of the year alone.
