Rihanna’s Fans Have Spoken: It’s Time to Lose the Red Hair

On June 4, 2010, Rihanna debuted a daring new flame-haired look. In the year since, she's taken her locks through various iterations—long, short, curly, straight and everything in between—with the scarlet hue being the only constant. Although it's been different shades, from maroon to fire engine, it's always red, red, red!

Rihanna has clinged to this look for just over a year, and we think it's time for a change. But lest you think this is a purely subjective editor's decision, we have analytical data to back us. While our method isn't without its flaws, the numbers don't lie.

We set up a game called "What is Rihanna's best hairstyle?" with a selection of 69 looks from the ever-changing pop star. Readers were asked to vote on randomized pairings of hairstyles and select which one they liked best. Then over nine months, we collected more than 250,000 responses and the reaction was unanimous: The red hair isn't cutting it for fans.

Fifteen of the looks—representing 22% of the total—were red, yet not one managed to crack the top 10. Only two made it to the top 30. The rest languished sadly at the bottom of the pack. The look with the lowest response rate of the 69? Red.

So, which looks topped the list as fan favorites? Rihanna's long loose curls made it into the top 10 twice at #1 and #8, while variations on her bob, both straight and curly with sideswept bangs, rounded out the rest. Here are Rihanna's top 15 looks according to our readers:
