Is Katie Holmes Secretly Scoping Out J.Crew?

Katie Holmes either has a serious shopping addiction (can you blame her?) or she's up to something sneaky.

According to WWD, the newly single lady made four trips to the same J.Crew store in NYC's Columbus Circle—all this week.

We know Katie's a loyal member of the J.Crew, um, crew. She's been snapped countless times (here, here, and here) wearing both Mickey Drexler's classic prep brand and clothes from its boho-chic sister store, Madewell.

Her alliance dates back to past modeling gigs with the brand. Two years ago, Katie starred in J.Crew's fall campaign with fellow The Romantics cast members Josh Duhamel, Malin Akerman, and Adam Brody. Even further back, when Holmes was better known as Joey (Dawson's Creek, anybody?), she and Michelle Williams appeared in a J.Crew catalogue together.

A J. Crew spokeswoman told WWD on Thursday that Katie isn't working with the label in any "formal" way, whatever that might mean. So we wonder, was she there to measure up the competition? Her first Holmes & Yang runway show is, after all, quickly approaching.
