Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton always looks like a dream—but at what cost? Turns out we'll soon find out.
According to reports in today's Daily Mail and the Telegraph, the responsibility of footing the bill for Kate the Great's wardrobe of Alexander McQueen dresses, Jenny Packham gowns, Reiss daywear, and L.K.Bennett shoes falls squarely on the shoulders of her father-in-law, Prince Charles. And, since Prince Charles is set to make his financial accounts public sometime in the next few days, we'll all soon know exactly how much he's forking over to keep his new daughter-in-law sitting pretty.
According to early estimates in the Mail and the Telegraph, Kate's annual wardrobe budget is pegged at somewhere around £35,000—or, about $55,000 at current exchange rates. That's just for the first year!
Luckily, Prince Charles seems to be happy to support his daughter-in-law's shopping.
"Charles is extremely fond of his 'darling daughter-in-law,' as he likes to call Kate," says the Mail, "and—for the time being at least—does not mind indulging her in the slightest."
Good thing, too, since her husband, Prince William, earns an annual salary of £44,000—about $69,000 at current exchage rates.
